Antwerp

Short holidays often are the best, and the latest one was great. Together with Melwen I went to Antwerp for a long weekend.

We took our daily breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien, a very nice bakery.

On Saturday we attended Gala Nocturna, a fantastic ball where incredible outfits can be seen. Melwen looked dignified in her Russian gown and hat, while I be-glittered the world with my interpretation of russian fairytales.

Something completely different for Sunday –  in 2009, Darwin Year, I visited Wales – where Darwin spent quite some time doing geological field work – and stood reverently before the display of his On the Origin of Species at Cardiff National Museum.
Antwerp’s zoo features a statue of him, so on Sunday, Darwin Day aka Darwin’s  birthday, we went to the zoo. I managed to miss Darwin’s statue, but enjoyed watching the zoo  inhabitants.

Porcupines  in a tree, and on my head…

Due  to  the cold, some animals preferred to stay  inside. Others clearly enjoyed the weather:

On Monday we traveled home, but I might come back sometime for another Gala.
