Switzerland

First visit since semester abroad, attending a two-day summer school and a workshop with topics related to traffic monitoring and management.

I left Vienna by train last Tuesday, spent one (short) night at Casa Flöre and arrived at Lausanne on Wednesday. Two intense days with lecture left only little time to explore the city.  The lake certainly looks nice enough in the evening:

Friday’s workshop included presentations on recent research and an interesting panel discussion on where traffic management might actually be heading. There’s also an interesting post at slashdot about the CVIS (Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems).
I was a bit disappointed that bicycle traffic was not mentioned even once. However it left me wondering if everybody seriously assumes e-vehicles will be the ultimate solution to our traffic-related problems. More on that later..

After taking my leave from the other participants and taking a nap in the park at the lake I headed back to Zurich and enjoyed some more of Flöre’s hospitality, returning home on Sunday _very_ late in the night (courtesy of ÖBB).
