Tomorrow is Buy Nothing Day, but rather than celebrating a single day of consious consumer behaviour I will evaluate my habits in the long run and see what I can change.
My working hours enforce Buy Nothing Weeks anyway :) – and I have to say I don’t miss spending hours in Vienna’s shopping areas. Have you ever tried to get anywhere in Mariahilfer Straße on a busy Saturday? Not even on quiet Saturdays your walking speed will exceed that of a sedated sloth.
I’d rather be an efficient consumer, knowing what I want and finding it in finite time. The second part is hard though: it’s amazing what designers think people might like to wear. Which makes my Make clothes not war section all the more attractive.
