Ways to do it

1. in the CLI: agi debug
2. in the script $AGI->verbose($message,<loglevel>);
3. in the shell: sudo -u asterisk <agi-script>

Step 3 helped me to discover that the asterisk-perl parent directory’s permissions were too restrictive.
