The resurrection of Amanda Palmer@Vienna

Now that is what I call one of the best concerts of my life – Amanda Palmer played in Vienna last night and it was _vile_.

Jason Webley and Zoe Keating sang and played incantations, and the resurrection was successful – Amanda Palmer was everything but zombie. She started with Astronaut: A short history of nearly nothing and played through Ampersand, Blake Says, Bad habit, Mrs. O to Half Jack, Guitar Hero, Leeds United, Have to drive, Strength through music and The point of it all – and she brought with her: friends, company, whatever you would like to call a bunch of freaky people obviously having fun. The Danger Ensemble’s show was a joy to watch; they glided around like dolls in a mechanical doll house, covered themselves and Amanda in jam and white wine and, to sum it up, made live a cabaret this evening.

There was a “Ask Amanda” interlude when she answered questions fans had submitted to a box before the concert.
Questions: “Can I have a baby from you?” (“I like how this one’s phrased”) – “In what do you believe?” (“you Austrians are so f***ing deep”) – “Why are you a vegetarian? do you like broccoli?” (so much for being deep, Amanda).
I would have asked her if she was happy to be in Vienna with us, but sometimes you just don’t want to hear the truth. On the other hand, maybe she really was, who knows.

For this four-encore-concert (Die Seeräuber-Jenny, Umbrella cover, Ein Stuhl in der Hölle, Creep cover on the Ukulele, Living on a prayer cover, Girl anachronism…) our goddess of beauty and grotesqueness demanded human sacrifices, and she got one girl willing to have her hair cut to “Hallelujah”:

she tied you to her kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah…
